OREA’s REALTOR® Advocacy Day at Queens Park, CORNERSTONE

On Tuesday, December 2 2025, Cornerstone Directors, Provincial/Federal Advocacy Committee members, and staff spent the day at Queen’s Park for OREA’s REALTOR® Advocacy Day.

Present in the discussions were:

Drew Hemsley, Bonnie Prior, Helen Goljak, Lou Piriano, Jerry Krzywda, Nicolas von Bredow, Brian Santos, David Zalepa, Goris Nazari, Melissa Vaidya, Linh Vu, Sandra Longden, Bill Duce, Crystal Henderson, Stéphane Hamade, and Sandra Szymezko 

The Cornerstone Team met with several key elected officials, including: 

  • Silvia Gualtieri, Parliamentary Assistant to the Solicitor General and MPP for Mississauga East-Cooksville 
  • Hon. Sam Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy – Intensive Industries and MPP for Niagara West 
  • Bobbi Ann Brady, MPP for Haldimand-Norfolk 
  • Aislinn Clancy, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Ontario and MPP for Kitchener Centre 
  • Sandy Shaw, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Culture and Gaming and MPP for Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas 
  • Catherine Fife, Shadow Minister for Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and MPP for Waterloo 
  • Monica Ciriello, Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General and MPP for Hamilton Mountain 
  • Brian Riddell, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and MPP for Cambridge 
  • Sheref Sabawy, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and MPP for Mississauga-Erin Mills 

The Team also met with with Hon. Stephen Crawford, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and MPP for Oakville as well as Hon. Nina Tangri, Associate Minister of Small Business and MPP for Mississauga-Streetsville.  

During these important meetings, Cornerstone discussed several important topics, including: 

  • RECO reform and the necessity of ensuring both consumers and registrants are made whole  
  • The need for a comprehensive review of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, to modernize the legislation 
  • The encouragement of mediation services between landlords and tenants at the Landlord and Tenant Board 
  • Implementing an income tax credit for small landlords who bring previously unrented units to the market to incentivize new rental supply 

Cornerstone is encouraged by the support and discussions during these meetings and look forward to meeting with additional MPPs over the next couple of weeks to advocate for the Real Estate Industry.
