Century 21 United Lakefield Office Leads Community Fundraising Effort Following Downtown Lakefield Fire, CENTURY 21 UNITED

November 7, 2025

Following the devastating fire that tore through downtown Lakefield earlier this month, Century 21 United Lakefield Office stepped forward to lead a coordinated community relief effort that raised $27,000 for those who lost their homes.

The fire, which destroyed the Kawartha Home Hardware building on Queen Street and several upper-level apartments, displaced ten residents and impacted multiple downtown businesses. In the days that followed, the outpouring of support from the Lakefield community was immediate and overwhelming.

Century 21 United Lakefield Office’s Leadership in Relief Efforts

The Century 21 United Lakefield Office quickly became a hub for donations, collecting clothing, gift cards, and cash contributions for affected individuals. Through the dedicated efforts of the Lakefield Office team, fundraising and distribution were coordinated to ensure that all resources reached those in need efficiently and fairly.

Through cash donations and e-transfers, the community raised a total of $27,000, which was distributed equally among the ten residents displaced by the fire.

“Our office was filled wall-to-wall with clothing and essential items,” said a spokesperson for the Lakefield Office. “It was incredible to see how quickly people came together to help their neighbours. This community has such a big heart.”

A Community United

Local businesses also played an important role in the recovery:

● Happenstance Books & Yarns collected cash donations in-store to support the displaced residents.

● The Nutty Bean Café launched a pay-it-forward meal program that quickly spread to other local restaurants for first responders and those affected by the fire, which will continue through December. The Nutty Bean also collected cash and brought it to Century 21 United Lakefield Office for distribution to those displaced by the fire.

● The Lakefield Greek Restaurant hosted a free dinner for displaced residents, first responders, and employees of affected businesses.

In addition to direct relief, Century 21 United Lakefield Office has encouraged the public to continue supporting downtown businesses impacted by temporary street closures by purchasing local gift cards and shopping locally.

A Message of Hope

While the damage to downtown Lakefield is significant, the community’s response has been a powerful reminder of its strength and compassion.

“The fire was devastating, but what came next showed the very best of Lakefield,” said a representative from the Lakefield Office. “From the donations and meals to the kind words and encouragement, every gesture mattered. Together, we’ve proven that even in hardship, community always rises.”

As recovery and rebuilding continue, Century 21 United Lakefield Office remains committed to supporting Lakefield’s residents and businesses, helping ensure that the heart of the town, its vibrant downtown, comes back stronger than ever.
