On May 21, the Ontario Real Estate Association RE-CONNECT Summit arrived in Windsor and the city did far more than simply host an event, Windsor impressed. From the moment REALTORS® walked through registration and into the opening sessions, there was an unmistakable energy throughout the day. The conversations felt intentional, the speakers brought practical value, and perhaps most importantly, the event reflected where the real estate industry is heading next.
RE-CONNECT Windsor focused on something much very important, helping REALTORS® adapt, evolve, and strengthen their businesses in a changing market. The day opened with powerful insights from Mary-Anne Gillespie, whose session ‘ Million Dollar Open House ‘ immediately shifted the mindset around one of real estate’s oldest tools. Gillespie challenged agents to stop treating open houses as passive weekend obligations and instead view them as strategic business-building opportunities. Her session emphasized systems, preparation, lead capture, and intentional follow-up, reminding attendees that consistency and structure are what separate productive agents from those simply staying busy.
That theme of modernization continued with Raz Zohar and his session ‘ Human-Led, AI-Supported, The Future of Real Estate. ‘ In an industry increasingly discussing artificial intelligence, Zohar delivered one of the most grounded conversations of the day. Rather than positioning AI as a replacement for REALTORS®, he demonstrated how technology can strengthen client service, improve efficiency, and create smarter workflows when used intentionally. His concept of ‘ Partnered Intelligence ‘ resonated strongly with attendees because it reinforced an important truth, technology may support the business, but trust and human connection still lead it.
Financial wellness also took center stage as JoAnne Martin addressed one of the least discussed yet most critical topics in real estate, long-term financial stability. REALTORS® often focus heavily on commission income while neglecting tax planning, wealth management, and sustainable financial structures. Martin’s session provided practical guidance that many in the room clearly needed, particularly in today’s more unpredictable market conditions.
One of the summit’s most meaningful moments came during the consumer panel, ‘ Beyond the Transaction, What Today’s Buyers & Sellers Expect From REALTORS®, ‘ moderated by Virginia Munden. Rather than speaking about consumers, the panel allowed consumers to speak directly to the industry. Featuring perspectives from Windsor buyer and seller Manish Pathak and Dave Jones from Kingsville, the discussion reinforced that today’s clients are looking for far more than transactional expertise.
They want communication. They want honesty. They want guidance. Above all, they want trust.
That recurring word, trust, quietly became the foundation of the entire summit.
The afternoon sessions continued to build on that message. Simeon Papailias and Jas Takhar delivered a presentation on consistency, systems, and the daily disciplines required to sustain growth in real estate. Their focus on CRM habits, educational events for buyers and sellers, prospecting, and follow-up reinforced the growing industry understanding that success is no longer accidental. In today’s market, consistency is becoming the competitive advantage.
Nathan Florence expanded on this with trust-based sales frameworks that encouraged agents to lead conversations with credibility and intention rather than pressure and persuasion. Meanwhile, Joses Wong addressed a topic that has historically received too little attention in real estate, mental health. His session acknowledged the emotional demands of the profession and offered practical strategies for managing stress, resilience, and burnout in an increasingly demanding industry.
Closing out the day was branding expert Camille Moore, whose keynote on personal branding reminded REALTORS® that perception matters before the first conversation even begins. In a crowded marketplace, she emphasized that consumers are often deciding whether they trust you long before they ever meet you.
As the RE-CONNECT Social began and attendees gathered to network, there was a noticeable sense that Windsor had hosted something meaningful. This was not simply another industry event filled with motivational soundbites. It was a summit focused in practical growth, professional standards, emotional intelligence, and human connection.
OREA RE-CONNECT Windsor proved that the future of real estate will not belong to the loudest voices or the biggest promises. It will belong to the professionals who communicate clearly, adapt intelligently, lead consistently, and build trust authentically.
And in Windsor, that message landed powerfully.
It was also a privilege to step beyond the summit walls and experience Windsor itself, a city that left a lasting impression. From the beauty of Riverside Drive stretching along the waterfront, to the quiet pride reflected throughout Windsor’s residential neighbourhoods, parks, and revitalized downtown core, the city carried a sense of calm confidence and connection. Standing along the riverfront, and watching the views from the hotel room window, it was remarkable to realize that the only division between Canada and the United States is simply a body of water. In many ways, that perspective mirrored the spirit of the RE-CONNECT Summit itself, bringing people together, creating conversations, and reminding us that connection will always be stronger than division.
